We took the 7 train several times and directions and finally landed at the Pine Restaurant for pregame food. A short walk across the bridge brought us to Shea Stadium. The beauty of Gator orange and blue in NYC is amazing to behold. After a short walk up to the mezzanine level (section 636, row A, seats 1-2) and possibly the best view in the park, We sat front row and could see every part of the park without obstruction. Over the outfield walls you could see the new CitiPark that will replace Shea in 2009. After a quick 2 run lead by the Giants, the Mets quickly answered with 4 runs over the first 2 innings. Despite no more scoring action, it was entertaining watching the fans harass Barry Bonds (who was hitless / HR-less) with signs /
blow-up syringes to remind him of his steroid debacle. One sign said 'Stick to it Barry' with the cardboard shape of a syringe and a drop of blood on the tip. The mob of fans heading out to the 7
train was also fun. A guy in front of me loudly announced his friend 'Roscoe' had his ticket. At this point he jumped the turnstile to be greeted by a NYC police officer promising him a trip to jail. The train ride was also not without excitement. We saw what looked like a tough kid, maybe all of 17, and some of his friends. The thing that caught our eye was a tattoo on his left neck above the collar line and just below his jawline that read 'Nancy' however the only evidence of
a Nancy near this young tough guy was on his neck. Well, the trip back to Times Square was fun and safe. More fun tomorrow!
